Prepared with two pairs of gloves, cap on the head, scarf around the neck, long johns under the pants and a warm coat I braced myself and got on the train into Stockholm this morning to celebrate Crown Princess Victoria’s name day at the Royal Palace of Stockholm. In the last few days this part of the country has experienced quite a heavy snowfall and the air is really raw, so it was quite an unusual experience to see a glimpse of a white Stockholm before it melts again. When I arrived at the palace gates at the southern vault at about 10:40 it became clear that I was not the first one on the scene, a few of the other regulars at special royal events already stood behind the closed doors, dressed to the teeth in their warmest winter clothes to keep warm. Today exactly two weeks have passed since Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden presented her fiancée Daniel Westling to the world and the Swedish people for the first time got to hear him speak and act live on television. Since then it has been rather quiet, some pictures of the couple have emerged but both Daniel and his family have clamed up and continued with business as usual.
Speculations have run wild about when the future Prince of Sweden and Duke of Västergötland will commit his real royal début by attending a royal function. Some have guessed Victoria’s name day on 12 March and the evening’s official dinner at the Royal Palace, others have said that they might wait to put him in that situation until her official birthday celebrations on 14 July.

Royal prize awarded
Today the King awarded the annual King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Prize to the Settler of the Year at the Royal Palace of Stockholm. The award was instituted in 1999 by IFS, an independent organisation promoting entrepreneurship amongst immigrants, and is given to someone who has reached success with their company through hard work and limited resources.
This year the 100,000 SEK check and honour of receiving the prize from the hands of the King went to Rafet Mustafa from Malmö in Skåne County. Rafet came to Sweden from Iraq in 2001 and runs the car service company Tigris Bilservice EF. New this year was a second category of the prize, an award for a long and successful entrepreneurship, which went to Remziye Inanc who has run her own interpreting company for thirteen years.

Early National Day 2009 detail released
Yesterday it was announced by Eskilstuna municipality that the King and Queen will be participating in the city’s 350th anniversary celebrations on the National Day on 6 June 2009. The city is Sweden’s sixteenth largest and will be celebrating with a jubilee week 4-12 June 2009 and on the actual jubilee 25 October 2009 when it will be exactly 250 years since King Karl X Gustav gave the city its charter.
It is a tradition for King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, and since some years also for Crown Princess Victoria, to spend the first part of the national day celebrating together with the inhabitants of a municipality somewhere in Sweden before returning to Stockholm and the national celebrations in the evening. Last year the King and Queen visited Södertälje municipality in Stockholm County while the Crown Princess graced Kungälv municipality in Västa Götaland County on the west coast with her presence.
