Twin girls for the Queen’s nephew

logo

It’s been many many years since the voice of a baby’s scream echoed through the halls of the royal palaces and tiny toddlers totted through the lavish drawing rooms hung with grand portraits. King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia are one of the few left without grandchildren in the royal circles of Europe, because while they may feel the longing to hold their grandchildren in their arms and see the family grow, they will have to wait as there is still no sign of engagement announcement around the corner.

So while her Queen consort colleagues and best friends show off pictures of their sweet grandchildren and exchange tips for the best baby shops around the world when they meet, our Silvia have to do with being happy for others at present time. But there are small signs of baby hopes also for them, maybe not yet in their own family, but almost… Svensk Damtidning reports that Maline Luengo, girlfriend of the Queen’s nephew Patrick Sommerlath (son of her brother Walther Sommerlath Jr) gave birth to twin girls on 15 July this past summer, the day after Crown Princess Victoria’s birthday.

Patrick and Maline Luengo have been together for about five years, the couple met shortly after Patrick split up with actress Camilla Lundén, with whom he has son Léopold (b. 2002, godson of Crown Princess Victoria), during 2003. Maline is of Spanish heritage and has an apartment on Mallorca where they go regularly and is well-liked by the royals and their circles with whom they socialize regularly. The couple are neighbours with Princess Madeleine in Patrick’s apartment at the Royal Mews, put at their disposal by the King.

A royal engagement

logo

No, the press has not missed Crown Princess Victoria’s, Prince Carl Philip’s or Princess Madeleine’s engagement. We’re still waiting for something to happen on that front. Instead a relative of theirs is about to tie the knot…

A simple two-row notice in the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet today announced the engagement between Désirée Kogevinas and Justin Rosenørn-Lanng. The engagement took place on the Greek island of Corfu sometimes this month. With other words a very humble announcement for a very special piece of news…

The future bride is a royal relative and direct descendant of several European kings via her mother Countess Madeleine Bernadotte, daughter of Prince Carl Bernadotte (born Prince of Sweden, Duke of Östergötland, who lost his style and titles when he didn’t marry equally but was given a Belgian title) and Elsa von Rosen, her father was Nicos Kogevinas (1918-2006). The future groom is a descendant of the Danish noble family Rosenørn in a female line; his parents are Oliver Charles Rosenørn-Lanng and Evelyn Margarita Astrid Kolbe Kamps.

The Kogevinas family has always been particularly close to the Norwegian Royal Family on a personal level, and by relation also to the Swedish whom they share regular contact with. The bride’s maternal grandfather, the late Prince Carl, or “uncle Mulle” as he was lovingly called, was highly cherished by the Norwegian royals and the family continues to hold close ties with them. The Kogevinas’ are always invited to special celebrations held in the Scandinavian royal families.

Both the bride’s mother Countess Madeleine and the bride herself have their base in Switzerland. Désirée works for WHO and the groom for a private bank, both are based in Genève. Hopefully we can look forward to a beautiful wedding with some royal guests.
