John Ambler, the husband of the King’s oldest sister Princess Margaretha, died in England on 31 May.
The couple married in a small church on the island of Öland in 1964 with the blessing of King Gustaf VI Adolf and settled in England shortly after, in connection to which the Princess ended her life as a public person. Mr Ambler and Margaretha have since been separated for many years and his residence has been a nursing home in Oxfordshire for the past couple of years. The Princess still visits Sweden regularly, she often spends some time at Solliden Palace in the summers and travels to Sweden for big celebrations but otherwise prefers her privacy in England.
