Curling

What a fantastic start King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia and Prince Carl Phlilip have had on their stay at the Olympic Games in Canada.

After arriving from a long haul flight their schedule started off with watching the Swedish curling ladies beat the Chinese team 6-4 late night Friday local time.

On Saturday they continued on to watch Anja Pärson, who had a scary crash just a few days ago and is suffering injuries while trying to stay on competing in what is believed to be her last Olympics, in the ladies Super-G. Pärson’s brave attempt to claim her 7th Olympic medal did not pull through. She ended on an 11th place after a small mistake early in the race, and afterwards said that she had problem with the feeling in her legs.

Prince Carl Philip turned 30

logo

The Royal FamilyThis past Wednesday brought a rare chance to see the whole Swedish Royal Family together when they appeared in public during a short ceremony to celebrate Prince Carl Philip’s 30th birthday.

Unlike the Crown Princess’ name days and birthdays and the King’s birthdays, the Queen’s, Prince’s and Princess Madeleine’s birthdays are only celebrated on their even “special” birthdays. Last time Prince Carl Philip’s birthday was celebrated officially was five years ago on his 25th. The King’s Queen’s and Crown Princess’ name days and birthdays are public flag days, the other’s are not. (more…)

Confusion cleared around Prince Carl Philip’s studies

Olympic Torch Relay, Day 27

There has been some slight confusions about the whereabouts of Prince Carl Philip in the last few months, both the media and the staff at the Royal Court’s Information and Press Department have come with different information at different times.

Last year court staff said that he would be studying free-standing courses at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences’ campus in Ultuna outside Uppsala, that was later confirmed to be the wrong information from them and instead the Prince has spent time following the farm work at his father’s Stenhammar estate in Södermanland County. After that information came from the Information and Press Department that Carl Philip would enrol in a two-year education in Agricultural and Rural Management at the same university’s campus in Alnarp in Skåne Country, enrolling in October 2009. Also that was later labelled as misinformation as it has now emerged that the Prince will indeed be studying at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Alnarp this year, but with the difference that he is only taking free-standing courses and started this past Monday (12th) already.

King Carl Gustaf looking to produce biogas

logo

Hosted by the County Governor of Skåne, the King and Prince Carl Philip today visited the biogas plant owned by Swedish E.ON, Danish Bigadan and Swedish noble estate owner Rudolf Tornérhjelm at the the latter’s large Wrams Gunnarstorp Estate in Bjuv. They spent a half day studying the plant hosted by representatives from E.ON, Bigadan and Rudolf Tornérhjelm, looking at the model that produces biogas from organic waste.

During the press meeting in the courtyard of the estate (Prince Carl Philip chose not to be available to the media), King Carl Gustaf said that he is considering the possibility of producing biogas on a smaller scale on his own agricultural estate Stenhammar in Södermanland County.
- The dream is to find a technique that enables biogas production in a smaller scale suitable for smaller estates. We have gathered a lot of impressions and it’s a little bit more difficult than I had imagined, the King told Helsingborgs Dagblad.

The King also said that the world has woken up a little bit late to the environmental issue, but that things are finally starting to move. Everyone taking their own responsibility and the big international summits are all steps in the right direction. The various techniques available to for example cars can be something which is not easy to decide on, the King said that not even he or the Royal Court have chosen one direction yet but are rather testing cars driven on for example gas and ethanol.

According to the royal calendar, His Majesty and the Prince also visited The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Alnarp during the day.
