Princess Birgitta, one of the King’s four sisters, is patron of Swedish Style New Zealand which will be held from 18-25 October. She will be present at various events during that week, featuring the best of Swedish design, music, gastronomy, plus symposiums on a range of sustainability issues. Crown Princess Victoria has previously taken part in Swedish Style Australia in 2005 and Swedish Style Japan in 2007.
Princess Birgitta has lived abroad since the 1960’s, first in Germany after her marriage to Prince Johann Georg of Hohenzollern and later she moved to the island of Mallorca in Spain which is her present place of residence, but she still supports Sweden in whatever ways she can.
Recently on Sweden’s National Day, 6 June, she visited visited the Swedish camp during the EURO 2008 at their residence Villa Sassa in Lugano, Switzerland. The Princess met with the coach Lars Lagerbäck and assisting coach Roland Andersson, player Fredrik Ljungberg and several sponsors. There was some sort of celebration where the national anthem was played and she wished them best of luck.
