On the occasion of Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s 6th birthday, the Norwegian Court has released a series of pictures of the princess.
Ingrid Alexandra had her first big official duty last summer, when she assisted her mother in an environmental duty in front of the palace. Later, she was the co-star of King Harald in a video aimed for children, as they together opened the children’s webpages on the royal court’s home page.
In November, she assisted in another royal duty at the National Football Championships for Men, when she handed out trophies to the winning team, Aalesund.
Ingrid Alexandra is currently attending nursery school/kindergarten, and will start school officially in August, when she enters first grade. She will presumably forego the royal tradition of going to school in Oslo, given the commute, and rather follow in the footsteps of her half brother, Marius, who went to the local elementary school.

The Norwegian royal court has introduced a version of their website for children around the age of 10-11. The idea behind the website is to inform the children about the function of the monarchy, especially adapted to their age group. The court also recently opened a version of the webpage in Sámi.
The pages have the same look as the grown-up version, but are more simple language-wise, and offer more explanations as to what the different things talked about are, such as state visits. The children are followed around the site by Ronja, one of the King’s dogs, a so-called Internet Hound.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra joined the King in a video for the opening of the new area of the homepage. The duo welcomed to the new page, and stated that they hoped the viewer would like them. The film archive on the site also contains a number of other videos where the royal family explains the function of some of the rooms of the Palace.
The children version of the royal site is unfortunately only in Norwegian, so far.
The Norwegian court released a new picture of the King, the Crown Prince and the Hereditary Princess last week.
The last picture of the three together like this was released in 2005, at the time of the celebrations of 100 years of the Norwegian Monarchy.
This picture was taken in the park at Bygdø Kongsgård, the summer residence of the King and Queen.

The family of Haakon and Mette-Marit has acquired a new member, the dog Milly Kakao. Milly Kakao is a labradoodle, which caused a bit of a stir from the Norwegian poodle association.
It has been alleged that the reason for the choice of labradoodle is that the Crown Princess and/or Marius might be allergic to other dogs.
The tradition of dogs in the royal family in Norway is something that Queen Maud brought with her from the UK. However, there haven’t been a public “family dog” of this type in the family since King Olav’s death.

It is the National day of Norway today, and in true fashion, the Crown Princely family started the day by greeting the children’s parade in Asker. However, unlike previous years, they weren’t doing it from the front steps of their house, but rather the gate to the estate. Skaugum is being renovated as a part of the financial package from the government to help against the recession.
All members of the family wore their national costumes. Haakon, Mette-Marit, Ingrid Alexandra and Sverre Magnus wore their Asker costumes, whereas Marius wore the same costume as last year, his Hardanger costume.
As the parades in Norway are Children’s Parades, Marius observed the parade until his school walked past, and then he joined his class for the rest of the parade. (Picture here from after that.)
Later today, the members of the Royal House will greet the Children’s Parade in Oslo from the Palace Balcony. The Members of the Norwegian royal house are HM the King, HM the Queen, HRH the Crown Prince, HRH the Crown Princess and Princess Ingrid Alexandra. (Edit: Apparently Prince Sverre Magnus also made a brief appearance).
While in Finnmark, Haakon and Mette-Marit received the question of whether or not Princess Ingrid Alexandra would be receiving training in the Sámi language. The Crown Princely couple replied that it was doubtful as not all schools offer lessons in the language, but that if they really wanted to, they would have to look at the offering in the area.
The Sámi version of NRK has examined the matter further, and for Ingrid Alexandra to receive Sámi classes, there would have to be nine other children on her age level in the municipality demanding it, as she is not of Sámi descent and not living in Oslo. The other option would be private lessons.
If she follows the public school plans, Ingrid Alexandra will start learning English as a second language in elementary school. She will pick up a third language in middle school, with possibilities for picking up more in high school, depending on what the school offers. But presumably, in Asker municipality, there will be no Sámi classes.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra will start elementary school in August 2010.
