Suspected Tax Evaders Use Liechtenstein As Financial Loophole

Fürst Hans-Adam, head of the tiny principality that carries his family’s name Liechtenstein, this past Friday received warm congratulations and well-wishes for his 64th birthday on Valentine’s Day 14 February.

The most prominent representatives of the small but wealthy country was welcomed to deliver their messages at a birthday reception held in the old castle and family seat, Schloss Vaduz, overlooking the capital from above. Prime Minister Otmar Hasler delivered good wishes and blessings from the people and public authorities.

Just recently it was announced that Hereditary Prince Alois, who took over the duties as head of state from his father in 2004, and the secretariat of the Parliament of Liechtenstein have agreed that the newly elected members will gather for the opening on 18 March. The main event of the day will be the Hereditary Prince’s traditional speech from the throne after which the 25 members of Parliament will swear an oath in front of the Prince. The new government will be announced a week later, on 25 March.
