Fürstin Marie celebrates name day

Newspaper Liechtensteiner Vaterland reports that Fürstin (Princess) Marie of Liechtenstein, wife of the tiny principality’s ruler Hans-Adam II, celebrates her name day tomorrow Saturday, 12 September. To celebrate the occasion ahead of time, Her Serene Highness had invited teachers and pupils from the kindergarten and primary school Triesen in the small village of Triesenberg to a congratulatory ceremony in the garden of the royal residence Schloss Vaduz yesterday Thursday.

During the event, which also the head of the supervisory school authority, the municipality chief and a local parish priest attended, the children presented the Fürstin with handmade wishes of happiness, blessings and good wishes for her name day. They also enjoyed some games and performances together. The royal had chosen this day for the meeting because her birthday in April coincided with the Easter holiday this year.

LGT CEO Prince Max in tax probe

Investigations concerning citizens escaping taxes are continuing in Germany. The purchase of client information from a former LGT bank employee in 2007 resulted in headlines around the world and a highly publicized embarrassment of the now former CEO of Deutsche Post, Klaus Zumwinkel in 2008 and now with his conviction in 2009. But despite this case result he investigative work continues, and now a member of the ruling Princely Family of Liechtenstein is pinned as one of the accused.

Hans-Adam turns 64, Alois to open Parliament

Fürst Hans-Adam, head of the tiny principality that carries his family’s name Liechtenstein, this past Friday received warm congratulations and well-wishes for his 64th birthday on Valentine’s Day 14 February.

The most prominent representatives of the small but wealthy country was welcomed to deliver their messages at a birthday reception held in the old castle and family seat, Schloss Vaduz, overlooking the capital from above. Prime Minister Otmar Hasler delivered good wishes and blessings from the people and public authorities.

Just recently it was announced that Hereditary Prince Alois, who took over the duties as head of state from his father in 2004, and the secretariat of the Parliament of Liechtenstein have agreed that the newly elected members will gather for the opening on 18 March. The main event of the day will be the Hereditary Prince’s traditional speech from the throne after which the 25 members of Parliament will swear an oath in front of the Prince. The new government will be announced a week later, on 25 March.
