Prince Hisahito happy and healthy at age 3

The youngest member of Japan’s imperial family turned three years old on Sunday. Prince Hisahito who when he was born by caesarean section in a private clinic brought about a public celebration and a sigh of relief in government quarters, is today growing into a young boy who is already quite photogénique.

The Imperial Household Agency, a government agency in charge of the imperial family’s lives, released official pictures showing the young prince dressed in a traditional robe posing for the camera at his parent’s Tokyo residence on 1 September. News agency Kyodo reported that the Prince’s parents Akishino and Kiko call their son “Yuyu,” “Yu-chan” and “Hisahito-kun” and that he likes to ride a tricycle and play ball. He has also grown to become 94 centimetres tall and weighing 13,6 kg and has made progress in mastering the arts of eating and dressing himself. (more…)

Japan’s Crown Prince visits Vietnam alone

Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan waved goodbye to his wife Crown Princess Masako along with Prince Akishino, Princess Takamado and members of the Imperial Household at Togu Palace in Tokyo, leaving for a week-long official visit to Vietnam.

The main reason for the trip is the celebrations of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam and upon his arrival at Hanoi’s international airport the country’s Prime Minister had come to greet him. During his visit Naruhito will also meet with the President of Vietnam, see the Mekong River and visit the cities Hue and Ho Chi Minh City.
