Documentary about Prince Nikolai

Prince Joachim and Miss Marie Cavallier - Wedding

Last night DR aired a documentary on Danish Prince Nikolai. The ten-year-old prince has been videotaped in the same location since he was a baby, and together with other tapings, this was the core ingredient in the documentary.

The viewers could see Nikolai grow up in front of the camera, and interact with his parents and brother. From later tapings, we could also follow him on his after-school events, inside the house at Svanemøllevej where he lives with his mother, brother and step-father, as well as behind the scenes of a royal photoshoot when he got a half-brother.

Amalienborg, 16. April, 2009

The Queen’s Birthday. And the whole family was out in full force. I did not actually notice Princess Isabella until I came home – she is rather small behind the bars.

The balcony scene is interesting to see, year after year, especially when it includes the children. Prince Nikolai is tall enough to comfortably look over the barrier now, and his brother, Prince Felix has also reached the desired height. Prince Christian, on the other hand, is trying so hard to look over the barrier, whereas his sister, Princess Isabella has decided against trying and is more comfortable looking through the bars.

Amalienborg Palace Square was stuffed with people today, old and young, Danes and tourists – as well as Her Majesty’s guard playing the birthday song. If you ever have the occasion to be in Copenhagen on the 16th of April, I sincerely recommend a trip to the Palace square, at 12 o’clock.

This was probably the last public engagement for Princess Marie until the birth.

Prince Joachim enjoys family time in France

logo

Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix have kicked off their summer holiday with two trips abroad already. First they spent some time with their mother Countess Alexandra and stepfather Martin Jørgensen in Turkey. Now they are enjoying some family time together with their father Prince Joachim and stepmother Princess Marie.

It is Queen Margrethe and the Prince Consort’s fourteenth century vineyard Château de Cayx, located near Cahors in the Midi-Pyrénees in the south of France, which hosts the family for a two-week stay offering plenty of time to relax and an opportunity to be together.

Yesterday they opened the doors for members of the media to capture them on their holiday and they were pictured playing football, smelling the wonderful blooming roses in the gardens, drinking lemonade and eating cookies and playing Uno together.
– The boys demanded to come here. They love the place just as much as we do, Prince Joachim told Billed-Bladet.

Marie’s other life companion, Bichon Frisé sweetheart Apple, still comes with the princess everywhere. She’s previously been seen in the slopes of the European Alps and now she’s with the family in France as well. Barely six weeks after their wedding, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie have just settled down together as a new family and the new princess has performed her first official engagements on behalf of the Royal Family and the county of Denmark.

A summer holiday in the warmth of her native country France is a welcome chance to relax and enjoy the season before the autumn comes with a new life and royal duties.
– We enjoy being here, it’s not until now that we sort of have begun to have an “everyday life” and we all enjoy that, Princess Marie said yesterday.

Prince Felix prepares to start school as he turns 6

Prince Joachim and Miss Marie Cavallier - Wedding

Prince Felix of Denmark, the second child of Prince Joachim (son of Queen Margrethe and Henrik, the Prince Consort) and his ex-wife Countess Alexandra of Frederiksborg, celebrated his upcoming 6th birthday (taking place on 22 July) in advance on his last day at kindergarten this past 27 June.

With a cake picturing spiderman climbing on a house, the adorable young prince was joined by his older brother Nikolai (soon 9), who also attended the closing ceremonies before the summer holidays at his school on the same day. Together they tucked in on the cake along with the other kids and flags and the Danish birthday song framed the event which brought smiles to everyone’s faces as Felix enjoyed the last moments of kindergarten. After summer it is most likely that he will start first class at the same school his brother attends, the Krebs School in Østerbro.

Right now the boys are enjoying their summer holidays. A few days ago it was reported that they were in Turkey together with their mother and her husband Martin Jørgensen. Since Countess Alexandra and Prince Joachim divorced in 2005, the Princes live together with their mother and her new husband (since 2007) most of the time in a stately villa in Østerbro, Copenhagen, although the parents have shared custody. The boys regularly stay with their father and his new wife Princess Marie at Schackenborg Castle in Møgeltønder on the countryside where Joachim is a farmer.
